Natural Prescription Diets for Dogs and Cats

The pet food industry has produced a range of processed prescription diet products for dogs and cats to help treat various disease conditions. However, whilst we know that fresh food is a more healthy choice than processed food, processed food can be more convenient. This book has been written for those pet owners who have pets that are unwell and want a non-processed natural alternative to providing a prescription diet.  The recipes in this book are healthy and less expensive fresh food prescription diets that have been carefully and professionally formulated according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles and also current research.

Clare, as well as being a qualified veterinarian, has a certificate in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Food Therapy from the Chi Institute, USA, and has applied theory, together with recent science, to produce easy recipes which are balanced to NRC Dog and Cat Nutrition Guidelines to help heal your unwell pet or to prevent future relapse of diseases such as arthritis, dermatitis, heart disease, cancer, liver disease, kidney disease etc.

Edition 2 now contains pescatarian (fish), vegetarian and vegan diets for dogs.

For cat only owners see Clare’s third book “Real Cat Food” for healthy and unwell cats.

Here are what some experts in the field have said Clare:

“… continues to be a leading source of information in all aspects of health and nutrition for our companion animals. She has always been on the cutting edge of new and important information regarding nutrition. If you want to know what nutrition researchers and scientists will think in ten years from now, just read what Dr. Middle has to say today.” Dr Bruce Ferguson DVM, Senior lecturer, Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, Florida USA.

Her “…. book provides a wealth of practical information on how to complement natural feeding of raw meaty bones with a variety of micronutrient sources to fine tune health of your companion animal. It should be a useful resource for dog and cat owners open to a healthier more natural diet for their pets”.  Dr Richard Malik DVSc PhD FACVSC FASM, small animal specialist veterinarian, University of Sydney.

She “… is a leading light in the world of responsible raw feeding. We at the Raw Feeding Vets Society welcome her second book.” Dr Nick Thompson BVMS VetMFHom MRCVS. President, Raw Feeding Vets Society.

Real Cat Food

This book has been written for the cat owners.

Cats are obligate carnivores, which means we need to go out hunting and gathering to a suburban shop to match the prey nature built them to eat.

This can be a challenge if your shop does not sell live rodents and small reptiles.

Then some cats get seriously addicted to the first food they were fed when weaned, and if this was processed dried food high in carbohydrate and chemicals, it may not be the best food for them.

This diet may have caused them health problems, but how do you convince your cat to change her views on what food is?

Some cats have a natural instinct to eat a different food at each meal, in order to end up with a varied diet. How do you write the menu to cater for everyone in your house, and stay sane?

Clare answers these questions and more in this book for all cats both healthy and unwell.
